.For the first time the Bhagavad Gita has been translated into the Polish language directly from its original Sanskrit text. This sacred scripture was originally translated into Polish in the beginning of the 20 th century, but that was a translation derived from English, not its original Sanskrit.The new Polish translation was done by Anna Racinska, a native Polish citizen with a PhD in Sanskrit. She spent almost a decade in Varanasi to master the nuances of Sanskrit before receiving her doctorate from the Oriental Institute of Warsaw University two years ago. A married mother of four children, Racinska and her entire family speak fluently and converse normally in Sanskrit.Her youngest child has adopted an Indian name, Yoganand, and lives in Varanasi, while another son visits India often and is currently completing his own doctorate degree in Sanskrit.“Her dedication and her labor of love have done wonders. It is a great achievement for Anna Racinska that she remained unknown for many years, and then all of a sudden she has obliged us in Poland with a great translation of a great book,” said Janusz Krzyzowski, a leading Indologist and president of the Indo-Polish Cultural Committee.“We really feel proud of Racinska’s monumental work.
